Jean Elizabeth Walker Higgins, 79, died on Saturday, November 11, 2006. She was born on September 21, 1927 in Waterbury, CT to the late Henry and Hannah Walker.
She was raised in New Jersey and lived there until moving to North Carolina in 1991 to be with her daughter, Kathy Higgins. She married the late Thomas Higgins on May 18, 1947. They had four children, Karen Jean, Kevin Thomas, Thomas Henry and Kathryn Mary.
Jean loved her family and friends and as a prolific writer and excellent communicator she rarely missed an opportunity to share her feelings and express her gratitude. She loved to laugh and as importantly, she loved to hear the sound of other people laughing or being happy together. Jean was a positive thinker and as such she inspired others with her unbending optimism, good cheer, her strong wit and sense of humor. Jean identified closely with The Episcopal Church-especially St. James in Hackettstown, NJ and the Holy Trinity Church of the Frescoes in Glendale Springs, NC.
She is survived by her family: Kathy Higgins and Heather Kashner, Thomas and Julie Higgins, Tavis, Hayden and Simon Higgins, Karen Webster, Kimberly Mabire, Kevin Higgins, Harmony Higgins, Norman Walker, Florence Legge, Jean Walker. The family is forever grateful to all that loved, cherished and enjoyed their relationship with Jean. We are indebted to the love and care of the staff of Chatham Creek Rest Home and Hospice of Wake County.
A memorial service and celebration of Jean's life is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 18th at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 221 Union St., Cary, NC. Details of the service will be posted at http://jeanhiggins.blogspot.com
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jean's honor to Hospice of Wake County (http://www.hospiceofwake.org) or the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Glendale Springs, NC(http://www.churchofthefrescoes.com).
Arrangements are by Cremation Society of the Carolinas.
